Aldi Shoppers Have Declared These 13 Items the 2023 Fan Favorites

Aldi shoppers have spoken! The growing supermarket chain recently released its fifth annual Fan Favorites Survey, in which customers are asked to name their favorite products of 2023. The list, which includes 13 items spread out over 13 different categories, even took things like TikTok and Aldi’s beloved affordable prices into account.

“Our loyal shoppers are always vocal about their love for Aldi products, and over 70,000 of them sang praises in this year's Fan Favorites survey,” Scott Patton, VP of national buying, said in a statement. “Their feedback is invaluable, which is why we were excited to introduce new survey categories inspired by our fans' interests, including 'TikTok Made Me Buy It,' among others.”

TikTok Made Me Buy It

New this year, this aptly named category is for items that shoppers have been influenced to buy thanks to TikTok. And while the social media platform has blessed us with creations such as French Onion Pasta and Jammy Egg Salad, the clear star of TikTok over the past several months has been none other than cottage cheese. Considering people have used the onetime diet staple to make everything from cheesecake to pasta, it’s no surprise that Friendly Farms Cottage Cheese handily won this category. In fact, cottage cheese sales at Aldi spiked more than 14 percent during this protein powerhouse's viral TikTok run.

Rookie of the Year

Sure, cottage cheese swept the TikTok category, but the winner of this category—Friendly Farms Low Sugar Greek Yogurt—got a sizable bump thanks to the social media platform as well. Remember those yogurt clusters everyone was making at the start of the summer? They helped propel Greek yogurt to the top spot in this category. 

Ready When You Are

One of the (many) things shoppers love about Aldi is the array of quick meal solutions they can find. Since everyone has those nights when they just don’t feel like cooking a whole meal, this category aims to highlight a product that yields a tasty dish with little effort required. The winner here, Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Take and Bake Deli Pizza, was voted as the third-most popular product in the survey. It’s also a 5-peat Fan Favorite category winner, as it has taken the top spot in a category every year since the survey launched in 2019. 

Snacks for Everyone

Everyone loves a snack, including Aldi shoppers. While there were many items to choose from in this category, the winner—Happy Farms String Cheese—is beloved by customers of all ages. It’s also one of five dairy items on this list, and was the highest voted item in the entire survey. Three cheers for cheese!

Cream of the Crop

Aldi’s produce department can be hit-or-miss, but when it comes to the chain’s selection of fruits and vegetables, the avocados reign supreme. In fact, this year the green fruits reclaimed their 2020 ranking as the top produce pick. On the Lighter Side 

For this category, which highlights the lighter fare shoppers can find at Aldi, it’s no surprise that Simply Nature Avocado Oil came out on top. The kitchen staple is affordable, has one of the highest smoke points among cooking oils, and can be used for sautéing, roasting, searing, and more. Plus, avocado oil is ridiculously healthy, and is a great source of nutrients like vitamin E and oleic acid. 

Protein Pick

Protein is a key nutrient that, among other things, builds muscle and helps keep you full. While everything from eggs to edamame is a good source of protein, Aldi shoppers are partial to the outlet’s Kirkwood Fresh Chicken Thighs. To bump up the protein content even more, serve the chicken thighs with Sweet and Tangy Baked Beans or Chickpea-Stuffed Sweet Potatoes.

What a Deal 

As Aldi shoppers will tell you, it’s hard not to find a deal once you set foot in the store. Shoppers’ favorite deal of 2023 belongs to Clancy's Kettle Chips, which come in multiple flavors and retail for about $1.29 per eight-ounce bag. A deal indeed!

Great Catch 

Purchasing fresh fish can be expensive, especially when you still need to season it and come up with sides to serve. However, the Fresh Atlantic Salmon With Mediterranean Herb from Aldi retails for about $9 per pound and comes already seasoned, so all you have to do is cook it. The price tag coupled with the bold, fresh taste helped this fish take top honors in the Great Catch category. 

Raise a Glass

Proving it can be a one-stop shop, Aldi has a robust (and growing) wine and beer section, as well as an array of hard beverages. The winner in this category, Belletti Sparkling Moscato Rosé, is actually produced in Italy and boasts notes of strawberry and cherry with a sweet, well-balanced finish. Pop open a bottle of this bubbly beverage and enjoy it as an aperitif, with fresh fruit, or alongside some desserts.

Choose Your Cheese

You can’t go wrong with cheese, and Aldi has several dozen cheeses to choose from. Chief among them is the Emporium Selection Fresh Mozzarella, which is sold in ball as well as pre-sliced log form. Use this mild cheese to top a homemade pizza, add some flavor and texture to a pasta salad, or enjoy it as part of a charcuterie board.

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction 

Satisfying your sweet tooth at Aldi isn’t a difficult task, thanks to dozens of ice cream offerings, chocolate treats, gummy candies, and more. The sweet that shoppers love most, Specially Selected Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream, may be basic, but it’s also downright delicious and made with just five ingredients. Enjoy it solo on a hot day, use it as the base for one epic ice cream sundae, or spoon a few scoops into a blender and whip up a satisfying milkshake.

It can be hard to pick just one condiment, but Aldi shoppers seamlessly rallied behind the chain’s Specially Selected Vinaigrette Dressings. Given how versatile a vinaigrette can be, it’s easy to see why this item came out on top. One variety, the Gourmet Garlic Vinaigrette Dressing, is made with white garlic cloves infused with herbs and spices, and would shine on top of a salad, as part of a marinade, or drizzled over a grain bowl.
