Cherry Manhattan Recipe

(5)

It's a classic cocktail that never gets old.

Cherry Manhattan in a glass.
There’s not a smidge of whiskey in the recipe—but there’s certainly nothing childish about this sexy, smoky, tea- and black cherry-infused riff on the iconic Manhattan. For maximum effect, skip the neon red cherries and garnish it with ones made with real Maraschino, like those sold under the Luxardo name. Get the recipe:Cherry Manhattan. The traditional Manhattan drink recipe has just three ingredients: whiskey, vermouth, and bitters (with a cherry garnish on top), but this easy-to-make version incorporates cherry juice to elevate the sweet-and-sour fruit flavor. Whether you use rye or bourbon is a matter of personal preference: rye makes a spicier, drier drink; bourbon will give you a smoother, sweeter Manhattan cocktail recipe. Both are beverage perfection. For maximum effect, garnish it with real Maraschino cherries, like those from Luxardo.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces rye or bourbon whiskey

  • 1 ounce tart cherry juice

  • ½ ounce sweet vermouth

  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Maraschino cherries, optional

Directions

  1. Combine the rye or bourbon whiskey, cherry juice, and vermouth in an ice-filled old-fashioned glass. Stir and top with bitters. Garnish with cherries, if desired.
