Combining crab meat with creamy mayonnaise is a good starting point for this crab rolls recipe. But adding some crunchy texture from fresh apples and vegetables takes them up a notch. In just 15 minutes, you'll have an easy weeknight dinner that requires little effort.

The addition of Granny Smith apples, celery, and radishes truly sets these crab rolls apart, adding a bit of sweetness to the mix. If you don't like crab or are unable to find it in your local store, try using shrimp instead. Serve with sweet potato chips as suggested or a pasta salad for a more filling meal.

Grilling or toasting the hot dog buns before serving adds a special touch to this simple meal.

Ingredients

  • ½ pound lump or “special” crab meat, or chopped cooked shrimp

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise

  • 4 radishes, chopped

  • 1 stalk celery, chopped, plus 2 tablespoons celery leaves

  • ½ Granny Smith apple, cored and chopped

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

  • ½ tsp kosher salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 4 hot dog buns, split

  • pickles and sweet potato chips, for serving

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the crab, mayonnaise, radishes, celery, celery leaves, apple, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

  2. Dividing evenly, fill the buns with the crab mixture. Serve with the pickles and chips.
