The thing about sneakers is that you wear them often enough for them to wear out faster than your other footwear, including those towering heels or cowboy-core boots. The upside to this? You have the perfect excuse to routinely buy yourself a new pair. Also, the low commitment aspect allows you to lean into some of the biggest sneaker trends of the moment and play with your personal style. If you’re in the market for a new set of kicks, consider purchasing a pair that falls in line with one or two of these sneaker trends.

Chunky White Sneakers

When in doubt, get yourself a pair of white sneakers—and bonus points if they’ve got some real substance to them. “White sneakers are a timeless trend that I adore because of their simplicity and versatility,” says Yzobel Biron, fashion influencer and spokesperson for Aspire Pink. “They effortlessly elevate any outfit, from casual dresses to tailored trousers.”

Shop: For a chic option try the Mallet Compton Off-White Sneaker ($265, Mallet), or go sportier with the Adidas Ultraboost 1.0 Shoes ($180, Adidas).

Drawstring Ties

Sneakers without traditional laces are trending, and the new preference is drawstring ties. “The drawstring trend is as stylish as it is practical,” says Bella Gerard, Shopping & Trend Advisor at Rakuten. “No more tripping over laces that come untied when you’re on the go! Nixing them altogether and opting for drawstring closures will ensure your shoes fit snugly, while showing off some major street style chops.”

Shop: Gerard loves the Hoka Bondi B3LS Sneakers ($155, Hoka) or the Salomon XT-6 Sneakers ($200, Salomon).

Dad Sneakers

Just like everything in fashion, sneaker trends follow a cyclical path. What was once old is now new again. “If it looks like the kind of thing your dad might have worn to the gym in the ‘90s, it’s possible a supermodel will be wearing the very same pair for their next paparazzi photo opp,” Gerard says. “Think maximalist metallics, synthetic overlays, and mesh [panels].”

Shop: New Balance 530s ($100, New Balance) are a perfect example of the dad shoe trend, as are the PUMA Velophasis Multi Sneaker ($120, Puma).

Cloud Soles

Comfort is queen these days, as evidenced by wide leg jeans and oversized everything. Sneaker brands are following suit by creating shoes that make it feel like you’re walking on clouds. The giveaway: large soles, often with holes built into them, that look super futuristic. The good news is that they’re as comfy as they are stylish.

Shop: Slip on the ON Cloudmaster Sneakers ($170, Zappos) or the Nike Motiva Women's Walking Shoes ($110, Nike).

Coquette Details

If Salomon’s recent collab with Sandy Liang is any indication, the coquette trend has found itself in the world of sneakers, too. “Think ribbon laces, floral accents, and pops of pink galore,” Gerard says. “If it looks too girly for your sweaty gym sesh, there’s a good chance it’s in vogue.”

Shop: Gerard recommends the Jeffrey Campbell Winge Sneakers ($145, Anthropologie) or Coach C301 Sneaker With Tea Rose ($225, Coach).

Classic High Tops

High top sneakers a la classic Jordan 1s or iconic Converse Chuck Taylors are definitely enjoying a modern-day comeback. “The Jordan 1s are more than just sneakers; they are a piece of sneaker history that I hold dear,” Biron says. “Their enduring popularity is a testament to their stylish design and cultural significance. Whether you’re aiming for a sporty look or a more streetwear vibe, the Jordan 1s never fail to impress.”

Shop: Keep it classic with a pair of Air Jordan 1’s ($155, Nike) or CONS Chuck Taylor All Star Pros ($80, Converse).

Slim Silhouettes

Slim and sporty sneakers a la the ‘00s are trending right alongside all those chunky styles and showy  silhouettes. Adidas Sambas are the pinnacle of this trend, and continue to serve as the go-to option for this style. Other brands have their own variations of this sleek, nostalgic silhouette, including Puma and Nike.

Shop: You can’t go wrong with a pair of Adidas Samba OG Shoes ($100, Adidas) or Nike Killshot 2 Women's Shoes ($90, Nike).

Splashy Color Combos

“The easiest sneaker trend to lean into this season is the one that embraces a little bit of color-blocking,” Gerard tells us. “A low-rise sneaker in two or more contrasting bright hues is all you need to elevate your classic T-shirt-and-jeans look to a whole new level of cool.”

Shop: Embrace color with a pair of Rag & Bone Retro Runner Slim Sneakers ($248, Rag & Bone) or SAYE  M70 Dart in Cobalt & Honey ($169, Saye).
