I Was Shocked These On-Sale Break-Proof Glasses Stayed Intact After So Many Spills

I have a tendency towards spilling, and not just after a glass of wine or two. I’m clumsy all on my own, even when stone-cold sober. Naturally, however, the rate at which I spill only goes up after a little vino hits my bloodstream. 

In an effort to reduce the number of glassware casualties in my kitchen, I was excited for the opportunity to test Wine Enthusiast’s Vienna Break-Resistant Glasses, which are currently more than 20 percent off through October 1. I was hopeful that they would remain in one piece despite my blundering nature, but I was also not entirely convinced of it. That is, until I dropped the glasses twice in one weekend.

The brand’s collection of break- and scratch-resistant wine glasses—which come in a variety of designs to enhance specific flavors and aromas—don’t look like how you might imagine an indestructible wine glass. Rather, they take on the appearance that any other high-end glassware should: delicate. 

The glasses come in two styles, Vienna and Pirouette, both of which include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Universal wine glasses.

The thin stemmed glasses are machine-blown in Europe with crystal-clarity and clean lines. However, despite the feel of fragility that concerned me upon unboxing, they withstood not one, but two falls. They didn’t shatter, chip, or scratch. And while my countertops didn’t escape quite as unscathed (red wine and white marble don’t mix), I’ll happily clean up liquid over pieces of glass.

I’m not the only clumsy sipper to rave over the break-resistant technology either. Shoppers highlighted “how lightweight and thin they are” while maintaining that they’re “very durable” even after “a couple of spills.” Another reviewer said that they have “the feel of a breakable glass” but don’t “break when dropped.”

Of course, if you actually know how to drink a glass of Pinot Noir without spilling it all over yourself, more power to you.
