As a lover of spicy food and fan of Trader Joe's Crunchy Chili Onion oil and the Crunchy Chili Onion Hummus, when I saw the new Crunchy Chili Onion Sprinkle Seasoning Blend on store shelves, I had to give it a try. And I'm happy to report, it will be taking a spot on my spice rack right next to my coveted Everything But the Bagel and Everything but the Elote seasonings.

I tested the seasoning out on avocado toast, using buttered sourdough bread as the base and topping with avocado, an egg, crumbled queso fresco, and the TJ's seasoning. (I also think it would taste good on eggs alone if you don't have the other ingredients on hand.)

Now I like spicy, but I can't handle the same level of spice as my Mexican suegra, and I think this seasoning blend is the perfect in-between. It's not so spicy that my eyes are watering, and it has that nice savory onion flavor as well. The only downside is, I had to sprinkle (what I thought) was a lot to get it spicy enough, which means I will likely be going through a lot of bottles. But if you're just here to dip your toes into trying spicier food, it's a great option to give foods a little kick. And if you're also a fan of Trader Joe's other Crunchy Chili Onion products, you'll be pleased to know the seasoning has the same flavor you know and love.

A word of caution to those with gluten sensitivity: the product does contain wheat flour, so it's not gluten-free.

Other Trader Joe's fans are talking about the product, including Reddit user mistame, who says they're ready to put it on absolutely everything.

One commenter agreed, saying, "Just picked this up, and as someone who can't tolerate spice well but loves that mala taste, this is amazing! I sprinkled it on top of rice and fish mixed with soy sauce and sesame oil."

Other Reddit commenters had great ideas for ways to use it, including topping off popcorn, or putting it on cottage cheese, salad, or a burrito bowl. Here are some of our editors' ideas to try:

  • Sprinkle it on top of pizza
  • Mix it in ground beef for flavorful burger patties
  • Top ramen, pho, or another favorite soup recipe
  • Sprinkle it on top of fried rice or regular white rice for extra flavor
  • Mix it in your pasta for a spicy kick
  • Add it to your favorite smeared bagel or toast
  • Put it on cooked veggies, especially grilled asparagus or roasted Brussels sprouts
  • Make a plate of cut fruit, like mango, watermelon, cucumber, and/or melon, squeeze some lime juice over it, and top with the TJ's seasoning
  • Add it to soy sauce or teriyaki sauce for a spicy dipping sauce for dumplings, sushi, egg rolls, or wontons
  • Put it on skillet fried potatoes
  • Top off a fish fillet like salmon or tilapia before pan-searing it
  • Use it to season chicken or tofu
