I don’t know about you, but in my household, rice is an absolute staple. On a typical week, my husband and I make two or three batches, adding it to dishes ranging from chicken stir-fry to salmon to fajitas. So when we came across this top-rated rice cooker on Amazon during Prime Day, we knew we needed it in our kitchen—especially because it was, and still is, on sale for 29 percent off.

Made by Zojirushi, the stainless steel device can be used to make up to three cups of white rice, brown rice, sushi rice, long grain rice, and more (it even does steel-cut oatmeal). It relies on “fuzzy logic” computer chips to precisely adjust the cooking time and heating temperature, allowing for perfect, even cooking of the rice every time—no chance of burned or watery rice. The steam vent cap keeps things neat and quiet, and when the rice is ready, the device will keep it warm for as long as you need before it’s time to be served. It has a delay timer, so you can add the rice, walk away, and come back once it’s done, but if you’re in a rush, you can also make use of the quick cycle option that works much faster.

When the cooker arrived, my husband and I were eager to test it out—and it didn’t disappoint. We added in a couple cups of white rice with some water, chose the specific white rice setting, and hit the timer; shortly after, the device sang a lovely little ditty indicating that it was done, and we opened the lid to find a few meals’ worth of warm, perfectly cooked rice. No effort needed! Afterwards, it was super easy to clean the cooker, as we just needed to rinse out the detachable inner lid and included spatula (the device also helpfully comes with a spatula holder on the side and a measuring cup).

Since that first test, we’ve used the rice cooker numerous times to make rice of all sorts, even adding in ingredients like tomato to add a bit of extra flavor (which came out great). It’s been such a great addition to our home, and since it’s so compact, it takes up minimal room on our countertop and blends right in. We also love that it comes with a fold-down handle, so it can be transported easily across the kitchen.

I’m so glad we bought this device, and clearly, I’m not alone; more than 5,900 people have given it five-star ratings. This is the “best rice cooker ever,” wrote one person, noting that “even my 7-year-old can make the rice and it tastes amazing because of the cooker.” Another shopper said that the device makes “perfect rice every time—no matter what variety,” and added that it’s “elevated our cuisine and is well worth the price.” Then there’s the reviewer who wrote, “simply stated, this machine works beautifully and makes the best rice I've ever made... no burning, no sticking, no issues.”

At $138 with the Amazon discount, the rice cooker isn’t the cheapest appliance, but in my opinion, it’s absolutely worth the splurge in order to have delicious rice always at the ready. Shop other must-have Amazon appliances below.
